Fifa president Gianni Infantino has been in hot water since British Times revealed that Fifa planned to sell shares of the World Cup. The news prompted Uefa to threaten a boycott of all Fifa tournaments. All 55 Uefa countries, including Sweden, united on the line that Infantino should not proceed with the plans. ## What's next? Fifa has since U-turned and shelved the plans. Now, SvFF announces that it will not support Infantino for re-election. The fact that Fifa's proposal was not taken up in a democratic way was the main reason for our decision, says SvFF president Simon Åström. He mentions the establishment of Fifa's peace prize and the alleged suspension of USA's Folarin Balogun during the World Cup as two other actions that have eroded Swedish trust in Infantino. ## What comes next? Sweden will now work together with Uefa and other national associations to find an alternative candidate to Infantino ahead of the next Fifa election in March 2027. When asked if there is a person they currently think could be a good fit, Åström responds: I won't say.
