Nightmare start in the final

Sweden entered the World Cup final in seventh place with hopes of advancing, but they had a nightmare start. Petronella Andersson’s horse Odina van Klapscheut got a foot in the water and refused to attempt the seventh obstacle, breaking after twelve faults. It didn’t get better when Henrik von Eckermann and Minute Man each had eight faults in their round.

From the triple bar to failure

  • I blame myself a bit. It feels like I was a little too far away, but when I look back I realize I was very close to the triple bar, says Henrik von Eckermann to SVT. He explained how he didn’t hop that combination well in Falsterbo but trained on it at home, but now sees he braked too early.

31 faults and last place

Sweden’s third rider Wilma McMahon with the horse Cicci BJN took 16 faults and Peder Fredricsson with the horse Alcapone des Carmille also failed. The team recorded 31 faults, Sweden finished tenth and last in the final.

The future

  • We’re not good enough right now, so it’s simple. We just need to keep fighting. The key to success is to go from one failure to the next with unchanged enthusiasm, says Peder Fredricsson to SVT.

The hope squad gets another chance to reach the Olympics at the 2027 European Jumping Championship in Waregem, where the top three teams, counted among the seven already qualified during this year’s World Cup, will earn a ticket to Los Angeles.

Olympic spot for dressage and eventing

Last week Sweden’s dressage and eventing teams secured their Olympic spots during their World Cup competitions. Germany won World Cup gold at home in Aachen, Belgium finished second and Great Britain third.
