Sweden's national team has a new mascot. The moose named Nick was unveiled by the Swedish Football Association on 18 September and is intended to be a symbol of joy, community and team spirit.
The mascot is designed to engage younger supporters and families during international fixtures. Nick will make his debut when Sweden's men's team faces Romania at Strawberry Arena on 25 September. He is scheduled for several appearances this autumn, including matches for the U21, U23, women's and F16 national teams.
"Because football is our national sport, we wanted to create a mascot that clearly symbolises both our national teams and Sweden", says Maria Hellströmer, brand project manager at the Swedish Football Association. "The moose felt like an obvious choice."
The association describes Nick as "the world's best team player". His role spans multiple Swedish national teams and various football events. The next stop after Romania is the men's team's match against Poland at the same arena on 28 September.
The national team faces an important autumn in World Cup qualifying where they currently sit third with four points from three games. They most recently suffered a 3-0 defeat to France at the end of June.
Nick is part of broader work to enhance the matchday experience. His schedule also includes the U21 team's match against North Macedonia in Falkenberg on 5 October and the U23 meeting with Finland in Uppsala on 8 October. The women's team will host the mascot when they face Lithuania on 13 October.
The younger national teams are also included in the plan. The F16 team will be joined by Nick when they host France in Borås on 24 October. The mascot's final scheduled appearance for the season is the men's World Cup qualifier against Bosnia and Herzegovina on 14 November. Ahead of the autumn qualifiers, the manager is without Anthony Elanga, Isak Hien and Jacob Widell Zetterström due to injuries. The team's recent form shows one win, two draws and two defeats from the last five matches. Nick, the new teammate, is already booked for seven different international matches through mid-November.
